How do I vectorize an image on my phone without installing an app?
Updated on
Open the Homotope workshop in your phone’s browser, pick a picture from your gallery or take one with the camera, then download the SVG or PNG: nothing to install, free, no account, and the processing runs on the phone itself.
PNG · 600 × 600 px
Steps on your phone
- Open the workshop in Safari, Chrome or your phone’s browser: it is a web page, there is nothing to install.
- Tap the drop area: your phone’s picker offers the gallery, your files or the camera. A screenshot works perfectly well.
- Pick a preset: Logo for flat colours, Illustration for a richer drawing, “Line art” for a photographed sketch.
- Compare the original and the result with the before/after slider, with your finger.
- Tap “Download” for the SVG, or export an enlarged PNG.
The workshop is built for touch: buttons, sliders and switches have targets of at least 44 px. The detailed steps of a conversion are in Convert a PNG to SVG.

The limits on a phone
- Memory: the image is processed at its real size, and a phone has less memory than a computer. On a very large photo, the workshop may show “Not enough memory”: it then offers fast processing, on an image reduced internally.
- Formats: PNG, JPG and WebP are accepted, HEIC is not. If your phone saves photos as HEIC and the file is refused, use a screenshot or export it as a JPG.
- Opening the SVG afterwards needs an app that reads SVG: a browser displays it, but editing it takes vector drawing software.
- A landscape or portrait photo becomes a posterised image, never a continuous gradient.
Without an account you keep everything that is free; see also PNG to SVG for free, no sign-up.
Production exports (DXF, EPS, PDF, separations): 2 free per month with an account, unlimited with Pro; without Pro, 1 credit each beyond those 2. The details: how much vectorizing costs.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Homotope app for Android or iPhone?
No. The workshop is a web page: it opens in your phone’s browser, with no installation and no account.
Is my photo uploaded from the phone?
No. Processing runs on the phone; the image only reaches the server if you save it to your account or ask for server processing yourself.
What if the workshop runs out of memory?
Turn on fast processing, which reduces the image internally, or crop the photo before dropping it.
Do DXF or PDF exports work on a phone too?
Yes, with an account: 2 free production exports per month, then 1 credit each, unlimited with Pro.
