How do I make an SVG for Cricut Design Space on my phone?

Updated on

Open the Homotope workshop in your phone’s browser, pick the photo or screenshot of the logo, keep the Logo preset with few colours, download the SVG, free and with no account, then upload it to the Design Space app from your phone’s files.

Coffee roaster logo grabbed from a website, as a noisy compressed JPEG: a coffee bean on a dark disc inside a thin ring, capital wordmark. JPG · 900 × 640 px

Steps on your phone

  1. Open the workshop in Safari, Chrome or your phone’s browser: it is a web page, there is nothing to install.
  2. Tap the drop area: gallery, files or camera. A sharp screenshot of the logo gives cleaner edges than a photo taken at an angle.
  3. Pick Logo for flat colours, or Black and white for a single vinyl colour; in “Advanced”, “Number of colours” is your number of vinyls.
  4. Keep the “Method” on “Abutting” (the default): each colour as closed shapes that meet without overlapping.
  5. In Export, open “Ready for cutting?” and enter the “Drawing width (mm)” of the finished piece: the check is free and flags details finer than the blade.
  6. Tap “Download”: the SVG lands in your phone’s downloads (the Files app on iPhone). In Design Space, upload an image and choose that file.

Nothing leaves your computer: see vectorize without uploading.

In Design Space, on the phone

To our knowledge, as of 26 October 2026, the Design Space app imports SVG on iOS and Android, but DXF on desktop only (source: Cricut help): on a phone, SVG is the right format, and it is free.

A screenshot’s background becomes one of the SVG’s colours, often a white rectangle: hide or delete that layer in Design Space before cutting. “Make transparent”, in the Palette panel, removes it in the workshop, on download with Pro or the trial; see removing a logo’s background. Then resize the design to the size of the finished piece.

The limits

The rest of the phone workflow is in vectorize on your phone; on a computer, see the cut-ready SVG for Cricut or Silhouette, the Cricut guide and the Cricut or Silhouette comparison.

Production exports (DXF, EPS, PDF, separations): 2 free per month with an account, unlimited with Pro; without Pro, 1 credit each beyond those 2. A new account gets unlimited production exports for 7 days, once. The preview and the “Ready for cutting?” check are free; the conversion runs in your browser and the server only counts the export. The details: how much vectorizing costs.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install a Homotope app?

No. The workshop is a web page that opens in your phone’s browser, with no installation and no account; only the Design Space app is needed to cut.

Why not a DXF on the phone?

To our knowledge, Design Space imports DXF on desktop only. On a phone, use the SVG, which is free, except transparent background and recolouring (Pro).

How many colours should I keep?

As many as you have vinyls, often 1 to 3 for a logo: each colour is a layer to cut and apply.

Is my logo uploaded to a server?

No. Processing runs on the phone; the image only reaches the server if you save it to your account.
