Vectorize a logo: from PNG or JPG to a vector file
Updated on
To vectorize a logo, drop the PNG or JPG into the Homotope workshop with the Logo preset, check the colours, then download the SVG (free), or a PDF and EPS for the printer.

What a vector logo needs to be
A printer, an embroiderer or a sign maker asks for a logo “in vector” because they must scale it up without blur and know its exact colours. The Logo preset aims at that: few colours, clean flat areas, circles that stay round and corners that stay sharp, even from a compressed JPEG grabbed from a website.
Homotope traces in your browser: the engine runs on your own machine, in a Web Worker, and your image is sent nowhere unless you save it to your account or ask for a server computation. The workshop opens without an account and without a usage limit: tracing, preview, SVG and PNG exports are free. Fabrication exports (DXF, EPS, PDF, separations): 2 free per month with an account, unlimited with Pro; the conversion stays in your browser.
Steps in the workshop
The workshop interface is in French; the button names are quoted below in French with their meaning.
- Drop the logo into the workshop, in its largest version.
- Keep the Logo preset; compare with the slider while zoomed in, especially points and small text.
- In the Palette panel, lock the right colours or merge two close tints; a « Palette imposée » (fixed palette) replaces the measured colours with your brand colours, inventing none.
- Download the SVG; PDF and EPS (fabrication exports) start from the same geometry, for the printer.
Limits to know
- A logo is not redrawn: the engine follows the edges of the image. Text a few pixels high, blurred or smudged, stays approximate; for crisp text, set it again in the original typeface in your software.
- Gradients and drop shadows become bands of colour.
- Changing a colour or making a background transparent are Pro features when you download; the preview stays free.

No, tracing runs in your browser; useful for a client logo that is not public yet.
