How do I reduce an image to my exact brand colours?
Updated on
In the Homotope workshop, paste your brand swatches into “Fixed palette” so every pixel goes to one of your colours and none is invented, or set “Number of colours” to 2, 4 or 8 in the advanced panel for an exact count, for free.

Steps in the workshop
- Drop the image into the workshop and pick the closest preset (Logo, Illustration, or Black and white for 2 colours).
- Your exact colours: in the “Palette” panel, “Fixed palette” section,
paste one colour per line (
#E30613 Client red,rgb(0, 87, 184) Blue) or import a CSV or ASE file, then turn on “Use this swatch library”. Each pixel goes to the closest fixed colour; dithering and a coverage threshold are available. - Just a number of colours: in “Advanced”, “Number of colours” goes from Auto to an exact number, 2 to 64. The tints are then measured on the image.
- Download the SVG: it is free, fixed palette included.

One layer per colour: separations
For screen printing, vinyl or embroidery, the Export panel offers “One layer per colour” (layered SVG, DXF) or “One file per colour (ZIP)”, the latter in cut mode. Separations are production exports and need an account. Preparing a screen from start to finish is in the screen printing guide; for a logo, see also enlarging a logo for print.
Production exports (DXF, EPS, PDF, separations): 2 free per month with an account, unlimited with Pro; without Pro, 1 credit each beyond those 2. The details: how much vectorizing costs.
Limits to know
- No Pantone table is shipped: type or import your own colours. The swatch library stays in this browser, never on the server.
- A fixed colour far from the image gives an unexpected result: choose inks close to the original.
- “Change colour” on an area is a Pro feature when you download, and is disabled with a fixed palette; merging, locking or removing a colour is free.
- The fixed palette is not available with “Single stroke”.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between “Number of colours” and a fixed palette?
The number sets how many colours to keep, measured on the image; the fixed palette sets which ones, down to the hex code.
Do I pay for the fixed palette?
No, and the SVG it produces is free. Only separations, like other production exports, are counted.
Can I import my brand swatches?
Yes, by pasting a list of colours or importing a CSV or ASE file, from 2 to 64 colours.
