How do I enlarge a logo for large-format printing without losing quality?
Updated on
Vectorize the logo in the Homotope workshop with the Logo preset: the resulting SVG is free and scales without blur to any size, and from it you can get a PDF or EPS for the printer or a PNG enlarged up to ×8.
JPG · 400 × 400 px
Steps in the workshop
- Drop the largest version of the logo into the workshop and keep the Logo preset.
- Check points, curves and small text with the slider while zoomed in.
- In the “Export” panel, pick the format: SVG (free, unlimited except transparent background and recolouring, Pro), PDF or EPS for the printer, then download.
- Need an image? “Export as PNG” enlarges for free up to ×8, or to the width you set, within the browser’s limits.

Which file for which job
- Screen-printed T-shirt: one layer per colour; see the screen printing guide. For embroidery, the embroidery guide.
- Banner, roll-up, printed sign: a vector PDF, often asked for. EPS has no transparency.
- Cut-out letters: DXF, see the laser guide.
PDF, EPS and DXF are production exports: they need an account (Google sign-in), and the conversion stays in your browser. Set exact brand colours first, see reducing an image to brand colours.
Production exports (DXF, EPS, PDF, separations): 2 free per month with an account, unlimited with Pro; without Pro, 1 credit each beyond those 2. The details: how much vectorizing costs.
What enlarging does not do
- Vector does not recreate missing detail: a 32 px logo stays poor, even when sharp.
- A photo becomes a posterised image, in flat areas, never a continuous gradient; for a large-format photo, give the printer a high-resolution image instead.
- Blurry text is not recognised: set it again in the original typeface for a large sign.
Frequently asked questions
Is an SVG enough for a printer?
Often yes, but many printers ask for a PDF or EPS: ask for their format before sending.
What size is the PDF?
One page the size of the image, 1 pixel per point; being vector, the printer scales it up without loss.
Can I get a huge PNG without an account?
Yes, the PNG export enlarged up to ×8 is free and needs no account.
